Condition Overview
Lumbosacral radiculopathy involves nerve root irritation at the junction of the lumbar (lower) spine and sacral region. Similar to sciatica, this condition can cause shooting pain, numbness, or tingling that radiates down the buttock and into one or both legs. The difference lies in which specific nerve roots are compressed.
Common culprits include herniated discs, bone spurs, and spinal stenosis. Over time, chronic nerve irritation can weaken leg muscles, making it difficult to walk or stand for long periods.
